Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are running a telephone triage system with booking for appointments via telephone, with a few advance telephone triage appointments online, 1, 3 and 5 days in advance.
This means a clinician will call you to discuss the matter further. Where possible, the matter will be dealt with remotely, HOWEVER, if needed the clinician can organise to see you face to face.
This is to limit face-to-face contact where possible and help stop the spread of Coronavirus. However, where appropriate, appointments are available to all patients.

Instead of making a telephone appointment, you can also contact Bridge Cottage Surgery for any administrative and/or clinician related issues by filling out an eConsult. Our eConsult platform is open during surgery opening hours, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Our clinical team is made up of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, a Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescriber and Physiotherapist and our reception team may ask you some questions to ascertain who is most suited to deal with your matter.
Saturday Nurse Clinics
Nurse clinic hours between 8am and 4pm are now available on a Saturday for chronic disease management, childhood immunisations and cytology screening (smear tests).

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception as early as possible, so visits can be organised appropriately.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
Extended opening hours for GP practices in Welwyn Hatfield - Routine appointments available in the evening or at the weekend.
Local Practices are working together to provide appointments at a time which is most convenient to you. Welhat extended Access Service provides appointments later in the evening or at the weekend. These appointments can be booked with the receptionist at your own GP surgery however you may not see your own GP or practice nurse and you would have to travel to Spring House Medical Centre for your appointment if the clinician requests you to attend. When booking an appointment, you will need to give permission for your medical records to be accessed and updated. Due to COVID-19, all appointments are telephone triaged. This means that the clinician will call you to discuss the matter. Where possible the matter will be dealt with remotely and if needed the clinician can organise to see you face to face.
Routine appointments are available:
- Monday to Friday: 18:30 – 20:00
- Saturday: 08:00 – 16:00
- Sunday: 08:00 – 12:00

Cancellations & Reminders
Cancel an Appointment
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter or a text message informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
To cancel an appointment, you can call the Practice on 01438 715044, option 1 or you can text to cancel your appointment.
Late For Your Appointment
Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see a clinician, please notify the receptionist and we will arrange this for you.
Text Reminder Service
We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
