Nurses

Our Practice Nurses offer a range of services and special clinics. They can help you with minor injuries, dressings, injections, removal of stitches, cervical smears, ear syringing, contraceptive and pill checks, ECG recording, dermatology and some medication reviews. The Nurses can also advise on travel immunisations, diets, smoking cessation and alcohol control. They carry out health screening checks, blood pressure checks, 24hr BP monitoring, and teach inhaler technique to asthmatics. The Nurses also carry out family planning checks, cervical smears and HRT follow-ups.

JANE HAMMILL

Jane specialises in Coronary Heart Disease, Women's Health, Asthma, Travel, Minor Illness and all general nursing disciplines. Jane is a Nurse Prescriber and can issue prescriptions when she sees patients.

LAURA WELLS

Laura specialises in family planning, women’s & sexual health. She can offer appointments for contraceptives including, implants & coils. She can also offer routine nurse services. Laura is qualified in Asthma & COPD care, she can prescribe in her areas of competence and runs the cryotherapy clinics.

NATALIE CLARIDGE

Natalie is a Practice Nurse and can offer appointments for hypertension reviews, BP readings, travel health, cervical screening, childhood immunisations and other general duties, such as wound care, ECGs and injections. Natalie is also qualified in Asthma care.

Liz is a newly qualified Practice Nurse and can offer ECGs, B12, wound care and some injections

SOCIAL PRESCRIBER

Social prescribers can provide help with wellbeing, housing, benefits, activities and links to carer support, social services and specialist teams.

Physiotherapist

FIRST POINT PHYSIOTHERAPIST

The First Point Physio provides physiotheraphy advice, exercises and is able to refer for further investigation for musculoskeletal pain

Practice Manager

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

CATHY GREENE

Reception Manager

Cathy is responsible for overseeing our reception team.

Reception

Our receptionists are identified by name badges and are trained to identify themselves when dealing with patients by telephone. They will deal with all requests for appointments, visits, repeat prescriptions, registering of patients, etc. You may be asked for medical details in order that the receptionist can pass them on to the doctor or nurse, who decides the urgency of the case or the advice to be given. Medical secretarial staff are available to answer queries regarding hospital and other clinical referrals.

Community Midwives

The Community Midwives work with the Doctors to provide care for mothers during pregnancy and for two weeks after delivery. Antenatal clinics are held at Welwyn on Friday mornings and at Kimpton on Thursday mornings. In addition to the clinics at the surgery there are two drop-in antenatal clinics (no appointment necessary) at the following locations: Applecroft Childrens Centre 9am - 11am Applecroft School Welwyn Garden City AL8 6UX AND Oaktree Centre 9.15am - 11.15am Holwell Road Welwyn Garden City AL7 3RP

Community Nurses

Community Nurses are available to nurse the housebound and those patients recently discharged from hospital. If you are already on their case load you can contact them direct on 07789 932856. All new referrals must be made through your GP.

Counsellors

Your doctor may refer you to the counselling service. Alternatively you can self-refer by calling 0300 777 0707. More information can be found on the As One Hertfordshire Partnership website.

Health Visitors

The Health Visitors visit all families with children under five years old. They provide information, advice and support particularly at times of physical and emotional stress. Direct telephone number: 01438 715104.
